Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is a complex disorder of the brain that affects the way information from the senses (sight, sound, taste, smell, touch, and movement) is experienced and turned into behavior. A person with SPD misinterprets sensory information and may over-react or under-react to it. He/she may cover his/her ears when hearing a siren or be unable to distinguish his teacher’s words from background noises. Other symptoms may include motor clumsiness, behavior problems, anxiety, depression, or school difficulties. The SPD Foundation and STAR Center are committed to enhancing the quality of life for those with SPD and their families through research, education, advocacy and multi-disciplinary services and support.

Proceeds will fund research toward diagnostic recognition of SPD, studies of treatment effectiveness, and the building of an outdoor sensory playground, bringing therapy, research and SPD family training together.
